It’s just 78 days to go until the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and today Team GB can announce Liam Pitchford and Paul Drinkhall as our two table tennis players who are set to compete in Brazil this summer.
The pair qualified two quota places for Team GB as a result of their International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) ranking and will compete in the men’s singles competition.
Both Pitchford and Drinkhall have represented Team GB in the past with appearances at London 2012 – though Rio 2016 is the first time they have qualified a spot outright – and at the 2015 European Games in Baku.
In 2014 the duo won a combined five medals at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and, at this year’s World Team Championships, were part of the team that claimed a bronze medal for England.
Today’s announcement takes the number of athletes selected for Rio 2016 to 63 from seven sports.
