Team GB Freestyle Skiing Statement: Sarah Burke

The British Olympic Association extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and many fans of Canadian freestyle skiing athlete Sarah Burke, who passed away on 19th January 2012 aged 29.

Team GB Freestyle Skiing Team Leader Pat Sharples, at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck, Austria said: “Sarah Burke has been one of the ultimate role models and inspirations for skiers all over the world. She was the one all her peers looked up to for leadership, the one who changed the direction of our sport to what it is today, the one who has inspired thousands of kids to start skiing and believe anything is possible. Not only this, but she was one of the most incredibly friendly, beautiful, approachable people you could ever meet and I’m personally truly honoured that I knew her. Sarah will be massively missed but never forgotten and our sport owes her everything. From all of Team GB, our hearts go out to her husband Rory and Sarah's family and friends.”
