Team GB announce Aldi as first ever supermarket partner

With a little over 500 days to go until the Opening Ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Team GB’s preparations are progressing at pace with the announcement of Aldi as the team’s first ever Official Supermarket Partner.

Aldi, which is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary in the UK, will work with Team GB in the build-up to and during the Games, as well as the wider organisation’s initiatives such as Get Set and Home-Grown Heroes.

Aldi has seen remarkable growth in recent years through providing fresh and affordable food to people across the country, which has driven significant investment in the UK.

The supermarket currently employs 24,000 staff and operates over 560 stores in the UK, with plans for further growth to reach 1,000 stores by 2022. Over half of all Aldi’s products are produced in the UK, with ranges such as the supermarket’s core range of fresh meat 100% British.

Bill Sweeney, Chief Executive Officer of the British Olympic Association, said: “We’re delighted to have Aldi join us on our road to Rio 2016 and their support will play a key role in the team’s success at the Olympic Games.

“Their drive for excellence matches our own and we’re looking forward to working with them on our community and sporting engagement programmes, as well as supporting the athletes heading out to Brazil next year.  Aldi is a growing, impressive brand in the UK and is a great fit with Team GB.”
