There was disappointment for British duo Barbara Parker and Eilish McColgan in the 3,000m steeplechase as they both missed out on the final.
Parker narrowly lost out on a place as a fastest loser after finishing sixth in the opening heat in 9:32.07, while McColgan - who was hit by a car on her last training run in Portugal earlier this week - was ninth in her heat in 9:54.36.
Parker said: "Someone trod on my foot, it ripped through my spikes and my foot is bleeding a bit. It put me a bit off my rhythm and once you lose contact it's hard. You've got to stay on it and I just didn't and lost touch.
"It distracted me a little and although I focused on getting back in the pack, I just never felt that relaxed from the beginning. I just didn't have that extra gear like last year in Daegu (at the world championships) when I got through.
"Some days you feel good sometimes not, you've just got to get to the final. I think I could have done really well in that final, but it's just so hard getting there."
