Speed skater Burrows eyes more medals at EYOWF in Brasov

Jack Burrows created history on his Olympic debut last year and on the eve of a second appearance the promising British short track speed skater admits he’s out to do it all again.

Burrows was one of three Brits to medal at the inaugural Winter Youth Olympics in Innsbruck last year and the only one to claim gold, that coming in the mixed team relay.

He was the youngest member of the British team at the Games and has been handed the chance to repeat such glory following his selection for the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival.

Burrows will skate in the 500m, 1000m, 1500m and mixed relay in Brasov where he is joined by Aydin Djemal, who claimed silver in the mixed team relay at the Youth Olympics last year.

And, with his trip to Romania bringing back memories of his outing in Austria 13 months ago, Burrows is confident he can deliver more success for Britain on the Olympic stage.

“Last year was great and to have a gold medal is a fantastic feeling,” said Burrows. “And this time around it has been a good season and I feel confident that I can match up with the best Europe has to offer.

“In the relay event Aydin and I skate so much together, we have a great understanding and that should work to our advantage.”
