Skip Muirhead credits rival Jones after high-quality game

Eve Muirhead paid tribute to unbeaten Canadian skip Jennifer Jones after failing to win with the final stone of their clash at the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Muirhead took a chance to hand the British women’s curling rink the win at the death against the Canadians but didn’t hit it as they lost 9-6.

That is their second defeat from three in Russia and Muirhead admitted once Jones got in front it was hard to claw her way back.

“I don’t go for shots if I don’t think they are there. I definitely thought it was there, we had a good chance in that last end,” said Muirhead.

“It was a high-quality game, Jennifer played fantastic. She put in a lot of great shots; she put a great tap in the ninth end against two of ours to score one.

“Jennifer played a great shot for three in the fifth end and that kind of puts you on the back foot.

“When you go three down against a high-quality hitting team like Canada you are always going to be chasing the whole game.”
