Skelton up to third in the world

British number one Nick Skelton has climbed to third in the latest Rolex showjumping world rankings.

Skelton's move from seventh spot follows a run of sustained success that has included grand prix victories in La Baule and Antwerp, plus the Hamburg Global Champions' Tour event.

The latest rankings are the penultimate list that will be published before London 2012.

Reigning European champion Rolf Goran-Bengtsson remains top, with Switzerland's Pius Schwizer second, but Warwickshire-based Skelton has overtaken the likes of potential Olympic rivals Ludger Beerbaum, Eric Lamaze and Kevin Staut.

Two other British riders also feature in the world's top 25, with Ben Maher up 12 places to 21st and Michael Whitaker remaining 22nd.
