British number one Nick Skelton continued his rich vein of form by winning the Longines Grand Prix of La Baule in France.

The Warwickshire-based showjumper was Britain's top performer during the FEI Nations Cup opener on Friday.

And he eclipsed a world-class field on Carlo to land the blue riband grand prix class, winning £53,000.

Skelton, 54, has Carlo and Big Star both in contention for the London Olympics, where he hopes to build on last year's bronze medal at the European Championships in Madrid.

Skelton's British colleague Ben Maher was third behind Belgium's reigning world champion Philippe Le Jeune, producing another superb display on Tripple X III just a week after winning the Valencia Global Champions' Tour event on the same horse.
