Sixth for Daley and Gallantree

Tom Daley and Rebecca Gallantree failed to kick-start Britain's medal hint at the European Diving Championships in Eindhoven.

The duo had to be content with sixth place in the non-Olympic team event to open the six-day meet at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Centre.

Both divers struggled, with Daley missing his final dive from the platform, to finish well out of the medals.

France pairing Audrey Labeau and Matthieu Rossett claimed gold ahead of Ukraine and Russia.

"We both thoroughly enjoyed the competition but we fell short of the expected outcome," Gallantree told Press Association Sport.

"There were a couple of dropped dives tonight but it was a really good warm-up for our main events later in the week."

The pair finished fourth together in the mixed event in Budapest two years ago, after which Daley succumbed to an injury which forced his withdrawal from the remainder of the competition.

The 17-year-old at least got through unscathed on Tuesday to ensure he should be ready to reclaim his European platform crown on Sunday night.

Daley first won the title as a 13-year-old in Eindhoven four years ago before memorably claiming the world crown in Rome a year later.
