London Olympian Louisa Sawers claimed her second Canoe Sprint World Cup medal of the month as she helped Great Britain’s women’s K4 team finish third in Racice, Czech Republic.
Earlier in May Sawers had surged to gold in Hungary as she won the non-Olympic K1 5000m.
But this time the 24-year-old was in more familiar surroundings as she returned to the K4 500m race, having helped Great Britain finish fifth at the event at London 2012.
However it was all change still for Sawers as only Angela Hannah remained from their capital quartet, with Lani Belcher and Hayleigh Mason joining the crew.
And the new team showed signs of gelling quickly after only four weeks together and racing in just their second regatta of the season as they finished with a bronze medal, crossing the line behind Belarus and Germany.
“We stuck to our race plan and it went well. Our 250m up was really solid and all four of us went up together,” Sawers said.
“As a crew we have been working on what is the best race plan and we are slowly nailing each part of this.
“We learnt from the first World Cup and it gave us confidence going into this one. The final was all about focusing on the last 100m and keeping it solid and strong.”
Sawers and co weren’t the only medal Great Britain had to shout about in Racice as in the men’s 200m K2 200m event Liam Heath and Jon Schofield claimed their second-straight World Cup silver medal of 2013.
However Ed McKeever, the Olympic Champion in the K1 200m, finished just off the podium in fourth, while Rachel Cawthorn continued to show improving form with a seventh place in the K1 200m, to add to her 5th place in the K1 500m on Saturday.
