Dave Ryding admits he didn’t get the results he wanted as both his Europa Cup and World Cup seasons came to a close but the two-time Olympic alpine skier isn’t done just yet.
The 27-year-old slalom specialist brought the curtain down on his World Cup campaign by finishing 34th in Kranjska Gora – just four places away from his top-30 aim.
Ryding had indeed produced a fine first run at last month’s Winter Olympics to break into the top 30 before placing 17th after the second, although it could have been higher.
An early error prevented him from what could have been a top-ten finish while in his last Europa Cup race in Soldeu he finished third – a third top-three finish for the season.
He relinquished his Europa Cup title to Switzerland’s Daniel Yule, finishing second overall, and, after admitting to a mixed season, Ryding will now enjoy racing pressure free in Canada.
“The World Cup hasn't been what I wanted this year with me being unable to get any top 30 results. Kranjska Gora was much better though and a positive end to the World Cup as I finished in 34th... close but not quite,” Ryding wrote on his Facebook page.
“The Europa Cup was a real up and down one, I started shocking, was good around Christmas, making mistakes in February but finished off with a very respectable third place. I was able to finish second in the standings this year.
“What’s next.... well I’m at the airport on the way to Calgary! NorAM finals time... my first ever NorAM races, should be fun and look forward to racing with less pressure than normal! It’s a case of go there and see what happens... full gas of course!”
