Rio 2016 Medal Moments: Bryony Page

Bryony Page entered Rio 2016 as an unknown to most armchair supporters, but left as a pioneering figure in trampoline after her silver medal marked Team GB's first ever podium finish at the Olympic Games.

Alongside teammate Kat Driscoll, the 25-year-old made history just by making the final - no Brit had done this before - and she then scored 56.040 to take silver, 0.505 behind Canada’s gold medallist Rosannagh MacLennan.

In a tense and nervous wait, several athletes failed to beat Page’s score – including world champion Li Dan, who took bronze.

Page, from Crewe, was stunned at the final result and says she is unlikely to understand the magnitude of what she has achieved until she retires.

“I didn’t expect to medal so to go and to get silver – I just couldn’t have asked for more. I went out there and did my absolute best on the trampoline in that final,” she said.

“I think once I retire from sport and watch the Olympics not as an athlete is when it’ll sink in. It’s been an incredible journey so far and hopefully more to come.

"I think dreaming big is key, how else can you achieve things? Overachieve and dream and I can't believe I'm living that dream. It's just amazing.

“Wherever I would have finished I would have been happy. In the back of my mind I knew a 56 was strong and it could have pushed for a medal, so I was like, 'Oh I could do it', but I also thought, 'I might finish fourth'. I just couldn't believe it.

“I said to myself ‘I have to give it all because I’ve got absolutely nothing to lose here.

“After my performance I was just so happy because that was the best I could have done on that day, and then finding out I'd got a medal, I couldn't hold my legs up, I collapsed and I was crying my eyes out."
