Exactly 12 years to the day that Rhona Howie won Britain’s last curling gold medal at the Olympics, Team GB men’s skip David Murdoch will look to follow suit.

His rink of Olympic newcomers Greg Drummond, Scott Andrews and Michael Goodfellow face Canada, who have lost just twice in the tournament.

Canadian skip Brad Jacobs inflicted a 7-5 defeat on the men in the round-robin stage in which Murdoch was forced to play a double takeout with his last stone and missed by a matter of millimetres.

It is the final session of the short track speed skating with Elise Christie and Jon Eley looking to end their campaigns on a high in the women’s 1000m and 500m respectively.

Christie has been drawn against Dutch long track speed skating 1500m champion Jorien ter Mors and Korean Park Seung-Hi in the fourth of four quarter-finals.

Eley meanwhile will also skate in the fourth of four 500m quarter-finals, where he has once again been drawn against Russian Olympic 1000m champion Victor An.
