Liam Phillips has expressed his delight at becoming the first British man to be crowned UCI BMX Supercross World Cup champion after a dramatic finale in Chula Vista.
Phillips was leading the series going into the final event before a crash in the quarter-finals jeopardised his chances.
However, when Australia’s Anthony Dean was also involved in a collision in the semi-finals the Briton was mathematically guaranteed the crown.
In the end Phillips finished on 710 points with Dean taking second place with 610.
"Super happy to win the 2014 @UCI_BMX_SX overall title!" Phillips tweeted.
Elsewhere, fellow Brit Kyle Evans failed to make it beyond the quarter-finals and Tre Whyte took seventh spot in the semi-finals.
