British sailors Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark have already secured Olympic selection but they still secured world silver in Isreal, while elsewhere Olympic champions Jade Jones and Greg Rutherford were also in the headlines. Here's our review of the last 24 hours:
Olympic silver medallist sailors Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark claimed silver at the 470 World Championship in the Israeli port city of Haifa.
The duo, who won the world title in 2012, have already been selected for next year's Olympics but certainly gave Austrian defending champions Lara Vadlau and Jolanta Ogar something to think about.
“We had a great medal race," said Mills.
Long jumper Greg Rutherford has been named the men's European Athlete of the Year.
Rutherford, 28, became only the fifth British athlete to hold the Grand Slam of outdoor major titles at the same time when he won gold at the World Championships in Beijing.
His victory saw him join Daley Thompson, Linford Christie, Sally Gunnell and Jonathan Edwards as Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European champions.
Rutherford received his award from the newly elected IAAF President and British Olympic Association chairman Lord Sebastian Coe.
Beijing 2008 Olympic silver medallist Keri-Anne Payne won gold at the marathon swimming World Cup in Hong Kong, while British team-mate Jack Burnell finished fourth in the men's race.
Olympic champion Jade Jones gained revenge for her World Championship disappointment and showed all her fighting spirit to take gold at the World Taekwondo Grand Prix in Manchester.
Jones, who also won gold at the European Games earlier this year, beat Iran's Kimia Zenoorin - who controversially beat her at the Worlds - and Korea's Sohee Kim to progress to the -57kg final.
And despite trailing to world number two Eva Calvo Gomez, she stormed back back to claim her first win on home soil since London 2012.
"There's always added pressure when you are at home but there was no way I was leaving without the gold," said Jones.
Great Britain added two medals to their European Track Cycling Championships haul as Jon Dibben and Chris Latham both earned bronze in Switzerland.
Dibben took bronze in the omnium after bouncing back from a difficult start to the event that saw him ninth heading into the final event – 42 points back on Elia Viviani.
But he produced a brilliant performance to twice take a lap and finish in third place just three points behind Viviani.
For the 21-year-old the bronze is his second medal of the week after he helped the team to pursuit gold on Thursday.
He told British Cycling: “I certainly came here looking for a medal, and maybe a win, and then as the omnium progressed, going into that points race, pretty much a medal was almost a long shot really, I’d have to race well and get a little bit lucky, which I did, so very happy in the end.”
Elsewhere, Latham was third in the elimination race with Brian Coquard and Simone Consonni first and second respectively.
European Games champion Amber Hill ended the year on a high as two British shooters claimed gold at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup Final in Cyprus.
The skeet shooter joined Steve Scott in the double trap, taking gold at the event which sees the year's top performers go head to head.
"To come away with a gold is an amazing end to the year and I couldn't have asked for a lot more," said Hill.
British diver Lois Toulson secured gold in the women's 10m platform event at the FINA Grand Prix in Singapore.
Toulson won the prelim and her semi final so looked in good form for the final. She looked confident throughout the final and won her first senior gold medal with her impressive performance as she scored 345.25.
Former junior track and field star Emma Pallant won the world duathlon title in Adelaide.
Holding off a fast finishing Japanse rival Ai Ueda and relegating defending champion Sandra Levenez to third place, Pallant replicated the world duathlon title win of her
Meanwhile, British team-mate Mark Buckingham won bronze in the men's race.
Leander Club's international stars delivered two big victories of the opening day of the British Rowing Championships in Nottingham.
The men’s four competition, featuring a host of medallists from last month’s World Championships in Aiguebelette, was won by their A crew of Stewart Innes, Pete Reed, Matt Langridge and Constantine Louloudis.
Louloudis said: “It’s been nice to get out in a four and mix things up a bit. We were much better in the final but we haven’t been racing together for long as a crew, so we would expect to improve as we went through the day.”
Leander also took the honours in an exciting women’s four final as Louisa Reeve, Lucinda Gooderham, Rosamund Bradbury and Katherine Douglas won gold ahead of a composite crew featuring Olympic champion Katherine Grainger and Beth Rodford.
