Olympic champion Burke breaks collarbone in training crash

Olympic team pursuit champion Steven Burke remains determined to make this year’s World Track Championships despite suffering a broken collarbone.

Burke and team-mate Owain Doull suffered the crash during the team’s training camp in Majorca on Sunday.

Welshman Doull picked up only minor injuries but London 2012 gold medallist Burke was left nursing a break to his collarbone.

And while back in the gym on Monday, it leaves a question mark over the 26-year-old’s participation in next month’s World Track Championships in Paris between February 18-22.

"I'm really disappointed, but I've been in the gym today," said Burke, who is also part of Sir Bradley Wiggins’ new team, working with the Tour de France winner ahead of Rio 2016.

"I aim to be back on the track as soon as possible so that I can resume training for the World Championship.”
