Olympic champion Brownlee looking to tune up in Hamburg

Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee admits his outing at the latest ITU World Triathlon Series leg in Hamburg is vital preparation for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Brownlee and ten other British athletes, including younger brother Jonathan, will compete at the sixth round of the World Series, where the global mixed relay title is also on offer.

Alistair Brownlee was denied by Jonathan, who claimed Olympic bronze at London 2012, in a dramatic head-to-head sprint during last year’s men’s race in Hamburg in front of a crowd of 300,000.

Jonathan is expecting another fast race and Alistair, who recently won his third European title, is looking for a good tune up ahead of representing Team England at the Glasgo2 2014 Commonwealth Games.

“The European Championships were another step forward for me and I’ve had a good training block since then in St Moritz so I’m looking forward to seeing how I go in Hamburg,” he said.

“There are a couple of weeks to go until the Commonwealth Games now so this is an important race in my preparations for that.”
