Four weeks on from winning his second successive Olympic triathlon gold, you wouldn't blame Alistair Brownlee if he wanted to chill out with his feet up.
But Brownlee is not finished for the year yet and, on Wednesday, the 28-year-old continued to do what he does best with victory at the Aquathlon World Championships in Cozumel.
Forming part of this week's 2016 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final, Brownlee showed no signs of fatigue as he stormed away from the starting line in what was his first ever aquathlon – consisting of a 2.5km run, 1km swim and another 2.5km run.
Lining up alongside training partner and four-time aquathlon world champion Richard Varga, Brownlee streaked away from the rest of the field on the first run lap, and despite Varga reeling him in, the Leeds man held on to add yet another title to his ever-growing collection.
And while it seems nothing can faze the two-time triathlon World Champion, Brownlee admits his maiden aquathlon posed a bigger challenge than he expected.
“[It was] definitely my first ever run, swim, run,” he said.
“I really enjoyed it, it was hard, really hard. It’s so hot, the running was tough.
“The other guys went off really hard and I thought ‘I better go with them’.
“It was weird, it’s not like I was tired, but I felt like I was in oxygen debt the first kilometre after the swim.” Sportsbeat 2016
