Murray leads British quartet into Rio World Cup final

Olympic silver medallist Samantha Murray leads a quartet of British women into the final of the modern pentathlon World Cup in Rio.

Murray will be joined by world champion Mhairi Spence, Katy Burke and Kate French while Lithuanian Olympic gold medallist Laura Asadauskaite looks the one to beat after an impressive qualifying performance.

This season, for the first time, the top 12 finishers in the two semis progress automatically to the final along with the 12th next highest points scorers.

“All four athletes are through to the final. They’re all there and that was what we were aiming for, so I’m happy,” said Istvan Nemeth, Pentathlon GB women’s head coach.

In Thursday's men's semi-finals, Joe Evans, bronze medallist on his World Cup debut in California a month ago, is joined by double Olympian Nick Woodbridge, Jamie Cooke and Sam Curry.
