Murray and Spence looking for European success

Olympic silver medallist Samantha Murray and world champion Mhairi Spence will lead a powerful British team at this week's modern pentathlon European Championships.

The pair are joined in the ten-strong team for Drzonkow by Sam Weale and Nick Woodbridge, who both represented Great Britain at the Beijing and London Olympics.

Freyja Prentice is included after her recent injury problems while rising star youngster Joe Evans, a World Cup bronze medallist earlier this year, is also named.

“The European Championships are the ultimate test ahead of the World Championships and they also form part of the team selection process for the World Championships, so they have special meaning for the athletes,” said British team performance director Jan Bartu.

“This is one of the peaks of the season and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing some top performances from our athletes.

“We've got two well-balanced teams and there is a lot of competition within the teams.”
