Morris adamant GB can defeat Russian in World League

British women’s water polo captain Rosie Morris insists her team will be fully focussed on the task in hand as they travel to Chelyabinsk for a World League qualifying match with Russia.

Britain fell to a narrow 12-9 loss to the Russians in Manchester back in December but travel to Chelyabinsk confident of a turnaround against the 2013 World League runners-up

They have good reason to be having qualified for this summer’s European Championships in January with skipper Morris admitting they’ll need to be at the top of their game to defeat Russia.

“We came away from the home match against Russia knowing we could have won it. Since then we’ve spent more time training and competing together while continuing to play at our European clubs, and will be looking to improve our defence,” she said.

“While it’s fair to say the last couple of months have been a bit of a rollercoaster with qualification to the European Championships closely followed by news of the funding cuts, we’ve pulled together as a team and stayed focused.”
