Morgan putting injury worries behind him

British snowboarder Billy Morgan is back from injury and looking towards Sochi.

Morgan - who finished fourth in the slopestyle at last season's World Championships in Stoneham - damaged his cruciate ligaments in his knee during summer training in the UK.

The initial prognosis looked grim, the recommended operation would have sidelined him for months so instead he embarked on an intensive rehab routine that put him back on the snow just before Christmas.

With the Olympic selection standard secure, Morgan is keeping a low-profile during World Cup events but will ride at next month's X Games in Aspen, where he hopes to lay down a marker for his Sochi medal ambitions, where his event will be decided on the first full day of the Games.

"I'm not going to be travelling too much, I will basically stay at the team base in Colorado," said Morgan, a bronze medallist at the World Cup finals in Sierra Nevada.

"It's nice to get an invite to the X Games, though the timing is not great with the Olympics just afterwards.

"The focus right now is just training and getting stronger."

Morgan's dedication to getting back to fitness has inspired team-mate Sam Turnbull, who is still pushing for the qualifying standard required to take a place in Sochi, where slopestyle will make its Olympic debut.

"Billy really pushes me with my riding," he said.

"You learn a lot from each other in this sport and we encourage each other to push ourselves and to build towards different tricks.

"It's great to have such a big British team on tour, if you ride on your own it gets pretty boring but having friends and team-mates around you only inspires you.

"I know what I need to do and I just hope I can do that.

"I'm just looking at making that criteria, getting to the Olympics would be awesome but I'm not thinking too far ahead."
