Miley brings curtain down in Beijing with silver

Hannah Miley helped bring the curtain down on the final short course World Cup of the season in Beijing in style as she claimed 400m individual medley silver.

The Great Britain squad headed into the final day of action in China already able to pat themselves on the back after collecting four medals from the event.

But Miley ensured she also got in on the action as she touched home in 4:27.21 minutes to finish second behind Spain’s Mireia Belmonte Garcia.

There was more good news for Miley with the 24-year-old’s time in her signature event being her quickest across the three World Cup legs this season.

While Miley was the only Brit to climb the podium on the final day there were a number of close calls as five team-mates fell agonisingly short in fifth.

Fran Halsall missed out on a bronze medal in 100m freestyle by just 0.03 seconds as she came home in 52.60.

Siobhan-Marie O’Connor lowered her 50m butterfly personal best to 26.37 but it still wasn’t enough to see her finish on the podium as she also came fourth.

Meanwhile, there were also fourth-place finishes for Roberto Pavoni and Sophie Allen in the 200m IM and 200m breaststroke respectively.
