Mears and Starling make individual improvements in Dubai

London 2012 Olympians Chris Mears and Hannah Starling both bettered their finishes from the Diving World Series opener on day two of the second round in Dubai.

Both failed to reach the 3m springboard final at the opening round of the season in China last week however Mears and Starling advanced this time around before placing sixth and fifth respectively.

Mears finished sixth with Nick Robinson-Baker in the 3m synchro on day one, repeating their performance from Beijing, and placed third in his semi-final with a combined total of 412.30.

That wasn’t better than his performance in the same round in China however his effort in the final, he scored 423.30, was and placed him sixth as Illya Kvasha of Ukraine took victory with 493.40.

Starling meanwhile was also third in her semi-final after scoring 286.80 and, despite failing to record a total as high in the final, she placed fifth with 282.45 as He Zi, who won in Beijing, was triumphant again.

Both will now turn their attentions to the third World Series leg on home soil in Edinburgh next month where they will be joined on the British team by Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley.
