Jenna McCorkell’s World Figure Skating Championships assault got off to a fine start in Japan as she shone in her short program.
McCorkell took to the ice in Saitama for her tenth World Championships outing and demonstrated her maturity as she comfortably qualified for the free program.
The 27-year-old scored 50.56 for her routine – just over three points off her personal best – to place 20th out of the 33 competitors in action.
And with the top 24 skaters progressing through to the next round McCorkell – who finished 25th at the Sochi Winter Olympics – ensured she lived to fight another day.
Before McCorkell returns to action Great Britain duo Penny Coomes and Nicholas Buckland will have got their assault underway as the ice dance kicks off – the pair looking to improve on their best World Championships finish of 13th.
