Laura Trott: A Career in Numbers

Essex-born Laura Trott is a double Olympic champion having won Omnium and Team Pursuit gold at London 2012. She is also a multiple world and European champion, and a Commonwealth gold medallist. Here are some of her key numbers:

20 Golds

Trott has won a host of top major cycling honours in just six years – two Olympic Golds, seven world titles, 10 European crowns and one Commonwealth gold.

6.5 Hours training

Trott trains intensely every day. She hits the road on her bike by 8.30am and cycles for up to three-and-a-half hours. She then does a further three hours in the afternoon between 2pm and 5pm.

1 Wet Towel

Trott has one pre-race superstition - she must stand on a wet towel before competing! She first did it before her Junior World Championships victory in the Omnium in 2010 and it has become a bizarre ritual ever since.

1992 Birth

Born prematurely with a collapsed lung and asthma in 1992, Trott was advised to take up a sport to improve her breathing, and prospered on a bike.

10 years old

The age Trott was when she received the lucky mascot that now travels with her to every competition. The toy dog, which was bought for her by her dad, has remained in her kit bag since she won her race on the day she was given it.

2013 Honour

Trott was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2013 in the New Year Honours list for services to cycling.

2 Dogs

Trott lives in Manchester with boyfriend and fellow Team GB cyclist Jason Kenny – and two sproodles named Sprolo and Pringle.

9/11 Song

Music plays a part in Trott’s inspiration and she lists Bruce Springsteen as her favourite artist, citing his song ‘The Rising’ - a reaction to the 9/11 attacks on New York - as the most powerful of all.
