Laugher wins bronze in 3m springboard final

British diver Jack Laugher rallied to win a bronze medal in the 3m springboard final at the World Cup event in Shanghai.

The 19-year-old recovered from poor first and third dives, which left him in eighth position, scoring 102.60 with his most adventurous dive - the forward 4-1/2 somersault tuck - in the fifth round.

The teenager won individual medals in each of the last three legs of this year’s FINA Diving World Series, and continued his fine form in China.

Laugher’s 488.20 was enough for third place, behind the Chinese duo of He Chong (540.35) and Cao Yuan (526.70), sending him to the Commonwealth Games as the top-ranked diver.

Fellow Brit Tom Daley will hope to add to the medal tally on Sunday as he attempts to qualify for the 10m platform final.
