Kenny takes charge

Defending champion Jason Kenny took the lead in his sprint semi-final with team-mate and four-time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy on day four of the Track Cycling World Championships in Melbourne.

Just one of the duo who finished first and second in the 2008 Olympics can represent Britain at the London Games under the one rider or team per nation per event rule.

Prior to the World Championships the team-mates and room-mates each indicated their belief that Melbourne would have a significant bearing on Olympic selection and, in the first match of the best-of-three contest which would determine who would advance to the final, Kenny held off a late charge from Hoy to win by a tyre's width.

France's Gregory Bauge, the 2009 and 2010 world champion, who was stripped of last year's title for an anti-doping offence, was a convincing victor over Australia's Shane Perkins in the first match of the second semi-final.
