Hounslow hoping to seal podium spot

Team GB's Richard Hounslow will be hoping for an Olympic medal on Wednesday as he competes in the canoe slalom finals of the single kayak.

The 30-year-old from Loughton, Essex, finished 11th in his heats and will first have to negotiate the semi-finals.

Hounslow's start time is 1.42pm and he will be hoping to make it through to the final, which eluded the world number one David Florence in the individual canoe slalom.

There are 15 competitors in the semi-final and there is little room for error as there is only one run. Only 10 make it through to the final at 3.15pm.

After pipping Athens silver medallist Campbell Walsh to a place in the British team by the narrowest of margins, Hounslow will want to prove a point.

He faces tough opposition from the Slovenian Peter Kauzer, who won gold at the World Championships last year and in 2009.

The Italian Daniele Molmenti, current European Champion and World Champion from 2010, is also expected to win a medal, along with the young Frenchman, 22-year-old Etienne Daille.
