Great Britain ease to victory in opening Fed Cup tie

Great Britain Fed Cup team captain Judy Murray admitted it had been good to see her young charges preserve their energy out on court as they eased past Liechtenstein 3-0 on day one in Budapest.

Johanna Konta and London 2012 Olympian Heather Watson both had easy victories with the former wining 6-0, 6-0 against Kathinka Von Deichmann and Waston beating Stephanie Vogt 6-2, 6-3.

Doubles partners Anna Smith, who was making her Fed Cup debut, and Jocelyn Rae also won 6-1, 6-2 against Vogt and Von Deichmann.

And the performances left Murray thoroughly satisfied with the team's effort in their Europe/Africa Zone Group 1 opener, with Turkey lying in wait next on Thursday.

“It was a nice way to start the event and was a relatively stressless day. We play against Turkey next which I expect will be tougher”, said Murray.

"It is nice to get through without having to spend too much time on court as by the time you get to the end of a week like this everyone is getting a bit tired.

“They all played very well, they adapted well to the conditions and surface. In the doubles particularly, Anna was making her debut and it was nice for her to start off with a victory.”
