Golden finish for Miley

Hannah Miley claimed a third medal at the European Short Course Championships in Chartres with gold in the 400 metres individual medley.

The World Championship silver medallist was the fastest qualifier and backed that up with a time of four minutes 23.47 seconds to top the podium having won silver in the 200m IM and the 800m freestyle.

Miley said: "I'm shocked that I was that fast. Last year I went 4:26 and I was hoping to clock the same time again this week or maybe go a little quicker.

"To post that time for a new European record is amazing. This week has been good for me even though tonight was very tough. I thought Katinka (Hosszu) was going to come past me at the end but I dug deep to hold on."

Hosszu of Hungary took the silver in 4mins 23.91secs while her team-mate Zsuzsanna Jakabos claimed bronze in 4:25.61.

Next on the agenda for Miley are the World Short Course Championships in Istanbul, which begin on December 12.

Great Britain's Aimee Willmott set a personal best 4:32.56 to finish fourth in the final.

Karley Mann finished sixth in the 200m backstroke final with a time of 2:06.16, while Craig Benson lowered his personal best from the heats to finish sixth in the 200m breaststroke in 2:07.02.

Antony James was 12th in the 50m butterfly in 23.53secs.
