Glasgow 2014 Daily Preview: Sunday July 27th

There are plenty of British medal hopes competing in sports across the XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow today.

Track and field action gets under way at Hampden Park, with Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, Adam Gemili and world 60m champion Richard Kilty the best home chances in the blue-riband 100m, with the session due to start at 2.30pm.

At the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome (session starts at 3pm), individual pursuit gold medallist Joanna Rowsell, Dani King and Laura Trott are all in the mix for the women’s 25km points race.

Jason Kenny, Kian Emadi and Matthew Crampton line up for the keirin, while Jess Varnish can claim an individual sprint bronze.

In the pool Fran Halsall will look to add to Saturday’s 50m freestyle gold with a repeat performance in the butterfly final (session starts at 7pm) and world record holder Liam Tancock goes in the 50m backstroke final with 100m backstroke gold medallist Chris Walker-Hebborn.

In the shooting, Rachel Parish and Charlotte Kerwood are in the double trap women’s final, while Jack Oliver takes on the men’s 77kg weightlifting final, looking to follow the lead of Zoe Smith, who struck gold yesterday.

England’s men meet India in the table tennis semi-finals (7pm) and the mixed badminton team face the same opposition at 6.30pm.

At the hockey Scotland take on world silver medallists Australia (9am) and England play Malaysia (11am) in the women's event.  And England's men play Malaysia at 9pm.

And rugby sevens, which makes its Olympic debut in Rio, is decided at a sold-out Ibrox. England and Wales both finished second in their groups and will play Samoa and Australia respectively. Hosts Scotland take on South Africa. Be watching from 12.20pm.

Swimming: men’s 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 4 x 200m freestyle relay; women’s para-sport 100m breaststroke SB9, 200m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 200m individual medley.

Athletics: men’s marathon, 5,000m; women’s marathon, para-sport long jump T37/38.

Cycling (track): men’s keirin, 20km scratch race; women’s parasport 1000m time trial B tandem, sprint, 25km points race.

Lawn bowls: women’s fours, singles.

Rugby sevens: gold and bronze medal matches.

Shooting: men’s and women’s double trap.

Table tennis: women’s team gold and bronze matches.

Weightlifting: men’s 77kg, women’s 63kg.

Other sports today

Badminton, boxing, hockey, netball, squash.
