Gilmartin grabs another World Cup bronze

Charlotte Gilmartin took advantage of team-mate Elise Christie’s absence to claim 1,000m bronze at the short track speed skating World Cup in Minsk.

Christie missed out on the trip to Belarus after sustaining concussion at the last World Cup event in Dresden, but is a two-time winner over 1,000m this season.

But Gilmartin, who won World Cup bronze in the 1,500m last week, proved a more than capable substitute as she continued her impressive season ahead of next month’s World Championships in Rotterdam.

China’s Han Yutong took gold ahead of Dutch skater Rianne de Vries, with Gilmartin just fractions behind. Gilmartin said: “It wasn’t my expectation to win a medal today in the 1,000m, but an opportunity to gain more experience in the distance. "I am feeling really good going into the World Championships and especially knowing I have now won a medal in every distance this season.”
