Gemili looking for more over 100m this season

Adam Gemili is hopeful rubbing shoulders with the great and the good of world sprinting will see him reach new heights in the 100m this summer.

Gemili enjoyed a fine 2013 as he became the second fastest Brit ever over 200m when he clocked 19.98 seconds at the World Championships in Moscow.

But while he lowered his personal best over 200m, he was unable to do so over the shorter distance with his best still sitting at 10.05 when he won the 2012 World Junior title.

However, this July Gemili will line up against the likes of Jamaican Yohan Blake, the world’s second fastest man of all time over 100m, and veteran Kim Collins at the Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix.

And the 20-year-old is adamant the world class opposition on show north of the border will see him recreate his 200m heroics over the shorter distance.

Gemili said: "2013 was a great year for me dipping under 20 seconds in Moscow and now I will be looking to make similar progress in the 100.

“The Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix will present me with the opportunity to go up against the best in the world and give me a springboard for the championships ahead this summer.

"The UK always brings together the best field of athletes and I’m sure the Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix will be no different to what we experienced at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games last year."
