GB women to make first home outing since London 2012 in May

Britain’s women’s basketball team are set to make their first appearance on home soil since London 2012 following the announcement of a four-nation tournament in May with new head coach Damian Jennings relishing the occasion.

The British women’s team will act as hosts of the Game On 2013 GB Invitational Tournament at Guildford’s Surrey Sports Park Arena at the end of May where they will play Germany, Greece and Israel.

Britain will use the tournament as preparation for the EuroBasket in France the following month, which they qualified for automatically courtesy of hosting the 2012 Olympic basketball tournament last summer.

Britain face Israel first and then Germany and Greece, with those three nations attempting to qualify for the 2015 EuroBasket this summer, and new head coach Jennings can’t wait to get going.

“We always look forward to international test games on home soil,” said Jennings, who was named as head coach of the British women’s team last month.

“The chance to play in front of a home crowd against top level European countries to prepare for the EuroBasket is a great opportunity.”
