GB suffer defeat in Croatia

The Great Britain women's basketball team have lost their first warm-up game for the London Olympics 81-59 to Croatia in Vodice.

Croatia, one of 12 teams who will go into the Olympic qualifying tournament next month hoping to secure one of the remaining five places in London, proved too strong for Tom Maher's team at this early stage in their preparations.

Jo Leedham led Britain with 15 points and six rebounds, while Natalie Stafford added 13.

Britain will face Croatia again on Tuesday night before heading to Belgium this weekend for a four-team tournament featuring Ukraine, Germany and the host nation.

Maher attached little importance to the opening defeat.

"We always knew it was going to be tough moving from the safe environment of training camp, where you can immediately correct mistakes, to a game where you have to get things right," he said.

"We have to accept that we'll need a few games to make the transition."
