Florence looks to rebound at canoe slalom World Championship

Great Britain's David Florence will look to rebound from his mixed start at the canoe slalom World Championships in Maryland.

One year ago the two-time Olympic silver medallist struck a rare double gold at the worlds in Prague, winning the C1 title and partnering Richard Hounslow to victory in the C2.

He was a comfortable qualifier to the C1 semi-finals but the pair suffered a shocker in the defence of their title, missing a gate on their first run and making a series of errors in their second, meaning they ranked 22nd, with only the top 20 progressing.

"We were not good enough," admitted Florence.

"It's a difficult course but others managed so that was not the problem.  I will now concentrate on the C1."

However, British team-mates  Adam Burgess and Greg Pitt and Matt Lister and Rhys Davies did get the better of the highly-technical Deep Creek course to progress.

Elsewhere, Mallory Franklin is still in the hunt to upgrade last year's silver after making the semi-finals of the women's C1 while Fiona Pennie, last year's European champion, was second quickest in the K1 qualifying.
