Fletcher out to impress at European Judo Championships

Megan Fletcher is determined to boost her world ranking as she and 15 other Brits take to the mat at the European Judo Championships in Budapest.

Fletcher joins London 2012 Olympians Sally Conway, Ashley McKenzie and Chris Sherrington in making the trip to Hungary where she’ll fight in the -70kg category.

The 23-year-old’s brother Ben is also on the 16-strong British team but they aren’t the only siblings with sisters Kimberley and Louise Renicks in the squad as well.

Fletcher will compete alongside Conway, who reached the second round at London 2012 last summer, in -70kg category on day two and she’s out to impress.

“I need to be in the top 16 in the world to make the Olympics,” said Fletcher. “It is my second European Championships and a realistic aim for me is to place in the medals.

“I am currently 48th, so this is a chance to gain some ranking points and compete with the best.”
