Team GB have secured three figure skating athlete quota places for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games; Team GB will compete in ice dance and the ladies singles events.
The International Skating Union (ISU) awarded the athlete quota places based on results at 2013 World Championships in Ontario, Canada, where British athletes Penny Coomes and Nick Buckland placed 13th in the ice dance and Jenna McCorkell finished 20th in the ladies singles event.
Sochi 2014 Chef de Mission Mike Hay said:
“I am delighted that ahead of the 2013-2014 winter season we have secured further athlete quota spots through the figure skating events of ladies singles and ice dance. That means we now have 13 of the approximately 50 anticipated spots secured for Team GB.
“David King and Stacey Kemp who finished 15th at the World Championships narrowly missed out on securing the pairs athlete quota places for Team GB. We wish them the very best of luck in September when they compete at the Nebelhorn Trophy, which is the final Olympic qualification competition.”
