Double Olympic champion Mo Farah will go back to the scene of his greatest triumphs with Dave Moorcroft's 31-year-old British 3,000m record in his sights.
Farah broke Steve Cram’s British 1500m record at the IAAF Diamond League in Monaco last Friday and is looking for another best at the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium.
But the Oregon-based athlete will have to go under 7:32.79 this Saturday to shatter the long-standing record.
“It depends on the race and the most important thing for me is to try and win,” he said.
“Last weekend took a lot out of me and it was great race and I still can’t believe how fast I ran.
“But training has been going pretty well so I knew I was capable to running close to 3:30 but I never thought I would break the British record.
“If my coach had said to me that I was going to run 3.30 six weeks ago I wouldn’t have believed it.
“I’m just going to leave you guys guessing if there will be pacemaker for the 3000m race but the most important thing is to not overcook it and the World Championships are what I am getting ready for."
Farah will look to defend his 5000m world title in Moscow and upgrade his 10000m silver from two years ago - and, he insists, everything is on track.
"When it comes to Moscow it will be a different race, the guys will know that I can run that fast so they will have to come up with something," he added.
"I just have to keep doing what I am doing and keep my feet on the ground.
"When you're at the top everybody wants to knock you down, they know your tactics but that's also what motivates you."
