Fagbenle forced to withdraw from 2013 EuroBasket

Temi Fagbenle has expressed her disappointment at not being able to build on her London 2012 experience after being forced to pull out of Great Britain’s EuroBasket Women 2013 campaign this summer.

After being named in Damian Jennings' initial squad for next month’s tournament in France, 20-year-old Fagbenle has withdrawn due to medical reasons.

At EuroBasket Women 2013 Great Britain will face Serbia, Latvia and hosts, France, from the 15-17 June.

And Fagbenle, who represented Great Britain at the London Olympics, admits it will be hard to watch from the sidelines.

"I am so thankful for my experience last year and loved every second of the preparation with the team leading up to the Olympic Games,” she said.

“I cannot wait to represent GB again, but unfortunately I cannot be with the team this summer because of medical reasons.

"I am on an intensive rehab schedule for the next few months, and I aim to come back stronger and in less pain than I have been in the past.

“This was a difficult decision for me to make as I wanted nothing more than to represent GB again this summer, however, I believe I have made the right choice.

"I am very disappointed to miss out, but hopefully the work I put in these months will help to ensure my ability to play for the country in the future. I wish the girls all the luck for EuroBasket."
