England suffer heavy defeat

Rajiv Ouseph proved no match for China's Olympic and four-time world champion Lin Dan as England's Citroen Thomas Cup campaign began with a 5-0 whitewash by the hosts in Wuhan.

Dan dominated his match against the world number 19 to win 21-14 21-10 while men's doubles pair Chris Adcock and Andy Ellis put up a brave fight before losing their men's doubles clash to world number ones Fu Haifend and Cai Yun 21-11 22-20.

Ben Beckman lost the second singles match 21-5 21-5 to world number three Chen Long, Chris Langridge and Peter Mills went down 21-10 21-12 to Chai Biao and Guo Zhendong, and teenager Toby Penty lost 21-7 21-11 to Du Pengyu.

The England team will face Indonesia on Monday in their second contest in Group A.
