Eleven Great Britain boats in European Rowing Championships finals

Great Britain have 11 boats in finals at the European Rowing Championships in Racice, Czech Republic, after an impressive series of displays in the semi-finals.

Katherine Copeland and Emily Craig won their repechage comfortably to reach the final of the lightweight women’s double sculls, where they are set to face strong competition from the France boat which edged them in Friday’s heat.

The men’s pair of Matt Rossiter and Jacob Dawson also bounced back well to win their semi-final, after finishing third in their heat the previous day.

The men’s eight won their heat to progress – the team led from the start and crossed the line with over a second’s lead over nearest challengers Netherlands and Ukraine.

Britain’s men’s four of Moe Sbihi, Matthew Tarrant, Will Satch and Callum McBrierty were beaten by the Russian quartet as they finished second in their heat, which was a tight affair, with Romania and Germany nearly edging the British foursome out of a qualifying place.

Meanwhile, Peter Chambers and Will Fletcher, Belgrade World Cup winners, ended up finishing second to Italy in their lightweight men’s double sculls, but qualified for the final comfortably.

Georgia Francis and Emily Carmichael just missed out in a place in the women’s double sculls final, in their first senior international competition, finishing third, with the top two qualifying.

Frazier Christie and Zak Lee-Green finished fifth in the men’s double semi-final.

Today’s achievements follow on from yesterday’s victories, which saw Vicky Thornley sail into the final after dominating her single sculls heat.

Holly Norton and Karen Bennett had comfortably raced to victory on Friday in the women’s pair, while the women’s eight came second to Romania in the test race, with all five nations contesting Sunday’s final. Sportsbeat 2017 Join the Team GB Club today, check it out right here
