Dream come true for Ward after more European diving success

Georgia Ward cannot quite believe what has happened after she scooped her third medal at the LEN European Aquatics Championships in London on Saturday.

Ward and Matty Lee saved their best for last in the Mixed 10m Synchro final, their final dive scoring 75.84 which gave them the silver medal with a score of 318.24 points.

Gold went to Iuliia Prokopchuk and Maksym Dolgov (323.70) and Russia’s Yulia Timoshinina and Nikita Schleiker went home with bronze (307.68).

And Ward – who claimed individual and team bronzes earlier in the week – was delighted with her showings in the capital.

“It’s been crazy and it’s not quite sunk in yet that I’ve won three medals at these Championships,” she told British Swimming.

“I always feel like I work hard, I’ve been enjoying my training. Moving to this pool and being with Jane [Figueiredo] my coach has been great, we’ve developed a really good relationship and bond, training and being around Tom [Daley].

“We really enjoy this event, we don’t come in looking for medals as we both have our individuals that we like to concentrate on so to come away with silver at the European Aquatics Championships is great.”

It was another great day for British diving as earlier in the session Grace Reid claimed bronze in the Women’s 3m Springboard.

A huge final dive by Reid achieved a score of 73.50, a six-point improvement from the prelims and her second medal of these championships.

Uschi Freitag of the Netherlands took silver, her countries first diving medal since 1995, and gold went to Italy’s Tania Cagnotto while Reid’s compatriot Rebecca Gallantree finished just off the podium in fourth.

Reid said: “I really don’t know what’s just happened. I put five dives together and I’ve walked away with the bronze medal.

“I prefer to just zone out from the score, put my headphones on and just concentrate on the dives, focusing on each one individually and somehow that just happened.

“I’ve been non-stop working for months behind the scenes and I’ve had great balance in my life and my diving’s really taken off in the past couple of weeks. I’ve got to maintain my form and keep training, I need to remain focused and take each step at a time. It’s been amazing to have my mum here and I’m grateful to the crowd for making so much noise.” Get discounted sports tickets, enter competitions, see exclusive content and much more at Team GB Club
