Tom Daley claimed bronze in a dramatic men's 10-metre platform final on Saturday night.
The 18-year-old led by 0.15 points from world champion Qiu Bo and David Boudia heading into the final dive.
But while Daley won a single score of 10 for his final back dive, it was lower on difficulty than his rivals to allow American Boudia to secure the win.
Daley, who became the youngest ever male Olympian from Great Britain when he competed in the Beijing Games aged just 14, had said earlier that he would be delighted to get a bronze medal.
He said: "With the men's platform bronze is almost gold and then anything above that is platinum and beyond.
"It's going to be very tough but in diving you just don't know what is going to happen."
Daley punched the air with both fists and jumped up and down excitedly as he received his medal.
A wide smile was spread across his face as he beamed and looked out to the adoring crowd from the podium.
