Confident Carlin aiming to build on successful summer

Jazz Carlin admits her medal-laden summer in the pool has left her confidence sky high ahead of the countdown to Rio 2016.

The Welsh swimmer has enjoyed a memorable few months, winning 800m freestyle gold and 400m silver at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games first up.

She then upgraded to gold in the 400m freestyle at the European Championships in Berlin shortly afterwards as well as adding the 800m freestyle title.

The 24-year-old suffered heartbreak two years ago when months of training disruption with tonsillitis and glandular fever saw her miss out on a place at London 2012.

But with results now going her way again, Carlin is determined to keep the performance levels high in the coming years.

"It's been incredible. My confidence was really knocked after missing out on London. It's really starting to get back to where it should be,” she said.

"To do a Commonwealth Games and a Europeans back to back it was always going to be tough, but to come away with three gold medals and a silver, it's been an amazing summer.

"I've just got to carry it on for the next couple of years now.

"It's definitely made me a lot more relaxed and it's given me the confidence that I need for the next couple of years."
