Clancy slips up

Ed Clancy dropped out of the medal positions after five events of the men's omnium at the Track Cycling World Championships in Melbourne.

Clancy finished seventh in the penultimate event, the 15km (60 laps) scratch.

The result saw the Briton slip into fourth place, with just the one-kilometre time-trial remaining.

Earlier, Clancy finished third in the four-kilometre individual pursuit.

In the opening event of the corresponding women's competition, Laura Trott finished second in the flying lap, clocking 14.391secs.
