Buckle takes positives away from defeat to Russia

Great Britain women’s basketball team might have tasted defeat against Russia but head coach Peter Buckle insists the experience was far from a wasted one.

A dominant second quarter from Russia saw them on their way to a comfortable 75-48 over Great Britain in the first of two internationals in Moscow.

And with the start of EuroBasket Women's 2nd Qualification Round right around the corner, the defeat was far from ideal preparation for Team GB.

However Buckle is adamant there were plenty of positives to take from the loss, and not just the 11 points and nine rebounds from Temi Fagbenle.

“Russia are tough, they're always going to be tough because they have a good understanding of basketball and they have a lot of experience in that group,” Buckle said.

“It's good for us though to play against these sides and experience a different style from what we've seen against Germany and Italy.

“They'll use the ball well if you allow them too and it's up to us to channel our defence."
