Britain miss out on semis with defeat

Great Britain's women's hockey team lost 2-1 to Germany and missed out on a place in Saturday's London Cup semi-finals as a result.

Needing to win by two goals to make the last four, the hosts found themselves up against it after conceding to Hannah Kruger and Janine Beermann just before half-time.

Hannah Macleod pulled one back 11 minutes from the end but there was not enough time remaining to get the goals GB required.

It means the hosts will now meet Ireland on Sunday morning in the fifth-place play-off.

The Irish lost 5-1 to Holland with Kelly Jonker scoring a hat-trick.

Saturday's semi-finals will see Australia take on Germany and Holland face South Africa.
