British Olympic Association Chairman Sir Hugh Robertson and Chief Executive Bill Sweeney today hosted the Japanese Olympics Minster as Tokyo continue their preparations for the Olympic Games in 2020.
Minister Tamayo Marukawa and her team met with Sir Hugh and Bill at BOA’s offices in central London to gain an insight into the preparations for the London 2012 Olympic Games and its legacy, learning more about the challenges and state of readiness the Games were in three and a half years out.
Along with Tokyo, the BOA continue their preparations for the Games with plans to confirm pre-Games preparation camp venues set for the spring.
“It was a huge privilege to host the Japanese Olympics Minister and her delegation at the British Olympic Association and We were able to talk over a number of familiar issues having hosted London 2012,” said Sir Hugh.
“The links between London and Tokyo are already very strong and we are hoping to sign prep camp agreements in Japan very soon. Today was a good opportunity to get to know the Minister and her team and reassure them that the challenge she is facing is very familiar from London 2012 and for all Olympic host cities.”
Minister Tamayo Marukawa added: “My sincere thanks to Sir Hugh and the British Olympic Association for hosting us today and for sharing their experiences with us us as we prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in three and a half years’ time.
“It was very helpful to understand the state of readiness three and a half years from London 2012 and it was encouraging to hear that despite the challenges the hugely successful Games left a great legacy in the UK and across the world.”
